Thought you might like to see these pics. I took on Thursday of a little baby blackbird in our garden. It looked too small to have left the nest, very tufty, no tail & unsteady, it has a brother or sister still in the nest area in the conifer but this one ventured out into the clematis climbing up the tree. I've watched it as it's gained confidence & today my heart was in my mouth as it jumped out of the clematis & tried to flutter upwards! It managed a horizontal flutter to a potted apple tree & then back again across the pond(godd job it's a tiny one!), across the veg. patch & into the camellia. I've been chasing a couple of cats away for the last few days (ours would only go for a bird if it walked past her nose!) & so far the little bird is still alive.

That is such a young one, but obviously quite a bit ahead of its siblings.

Lovely shots Sue, I love that grumpy look fledglings have.
I recently returned a Swallow to its nest, it was too young to leave the nest so I presumed it had fallen out. My only problem was there were four nest to chose from. I concluded if a bird will feed a Cuckoo it will feed another chick of the same species.
Today I noticed all the other chicks in that nest had fledged and the parents are still feeding one chick.
Is your Blackbird fledgling still OK?

Glad your swallows have fledged safely W.F. So far the little blackbird is doing well, I went down the garden to refill the bird seed feeder this morning & came eye to eye with the daring little devil in the camellia bush, I just whispered to it to stay where it was & it watched me fill the feeder. There still seems to be one or two others near the nest in the conifer as I've seen mum & dad flying in & out of there with food so hopefully they'll all make it. I keep rushing out whenever I hear the adults alarm calls to search the bushes for cats!
