From the few dahlias i did grow from seeds last year i only kept one plant to try again this season, the rest went on the compost heap. The seedling has now come into flower, I would class it as a Miniature Decorative, it seems to have a good bloom angle and a nice straight stem.

A picture i took a couple of days ago, some of the petals are damaged and still green eyed, not happy with the centre on this first bloom, it is in a pot and was in the greenhouse during the heatwave, i hope further blooms are a improvement or it will be either a garden dahlia or a compost dahlia. ;D Not really sure what colour to call it, anybody any suggestions. Will take the camera with me tomorrow, this pic was taken with the mobile phone, so could be better.

This is a small bed of decorative and ball dahlias that have been allowed to grow straight up, these hopefully will produce some seed for next year.

One of the seedlings has flowered, this one will help to fill the compost bin.

What a perfectionist you are Tel. It is good to see the ones which have not made it so we know what we are looking for.
