There was a baby wren hopping about in the winter honeysuckle today - I wonder where they nested?

I heard the cuckoo this evening. I wonder why it is so late to sound. That is the first time I have heard it.

They look very smart don't they, ours keep tapdancing & cooing down the chimney.

I heard the cuckoo this evening. I wonder why it is so late to sound. That is the first time I have heard it. That is a good photo of the pair of wood pigeons Derek. I have a confession to make. It was not a cuckoo and the one from the last few years did not make it back here, so this is the first year since I have been here that I have not had a cuckoo. I miss the sound, but maybe next year.

I've never heard a cuckoo in my life Cherry! We have baby blackbirds in the front & the back garden, out of the nest now & very vulnerable. I saved one from Amy yesterday & locked her in the house (Amy not the bird!), it must have wandered out onto next door's drive without realising Amy was snoozing there & she woke up & swatted it with her paw, I heard it shriek, ran out & it fluttered under our car & escaped out into the shrubs & seemed O.K. There were 2 pottering about the patio yesterday afternoon, one was sitting in a pot of bulbs left dying off on the table, I think it's now hiding in the conifer. Took this photo through the kitchen window.

that's a good photo, I hate this time of year with all the babies around, our local hoods are catching them left right and centre

There was a largish gingerish feather in the garden too, I think it's from the sparrowhawk who must have been trying to catch the little ones too. Bit quiet today so either the cats/hawks have got the babies or they've managed to get higher up in the trees out of harms way.

The birds must go into shock, or they do not want to advertise their positions.

There was a dopey little baby collared dove in the garden yesterday afternoon, I took this photo through the kitchen window just as it was sliding down the open top of the mini greenhouse (it wasn't doing it on purpose!) It then hopped onto the fence & the conservatory roof next door & then the fluttered to the fence next door but one, hope the cats/sparrowhawk didn't get it.
