We have a pretty white dove visiting the garden at the moment, well it's a white feral pigeon with just a stripe of grey on it's rear but it looks the part!

I think that is an albino SueA. They have them at Ely Cathedral.

Brilliant pics, as always SueA. I actually like wood pigeons. Went to the border of the property to check out the ducks and swans, and was sorry to see empty cartridge cases. Shooters come to shoot pigeons when rape is planted.

Unusually, the woodpigeon is being sensible, had it tried to fly off the hawk would probably have taken it.

I think the woodpigeon must have been a bit shortsighted & thought it was another pigeon or else it was being brave & possibly protecting young because it flew down & landed next to the sparrowhawk & then when it flew off into the ivy 'tree' at the end of the garden the woodpigeon flew off after it! Didn't see any feathers anywhere after so I don't think it came to blows.

I got very excited today, a great spotted woodpecker arrived on the bird feeders! Never seen one of those in this area before, it flew up into the oak tree & then came down again & perched on the gate but wouldn't go back to the feeders as there were quite a few other birds around them. I heard it tapping on the tree later as well & saw it flying off, hope it hangs around. There were 8 collared doves at one time in the garden, 2 jays in the tree, 2 wrens on the patio, 2 robins in the ivy, 2 squirrels burying acorns & 3 frogs in the pond - word must have got around! Managed to snap a photo of the woodpecker through the patio doors.

We've never had one in the garden before either grindle & I've never seen one so close up - just glimpsed them a few times up in trees on walks.

That's a lovely picture SueA. I saw one in our garden one morning last winter. We even had one visit on Christmas Day a few years back.
