reckon I must be in the minority here as our local birds get their food in feeders hanging up in the enclosed back yard and also several under the large conifer plus a stand in the lawn which has a caged in bit which keeps the larger birds out. They also get leftover bread, crumbs and fruit as well as meat, bacon rind and any other scraps available chucked out on the ground. It all disappears very quickly and all birds are welcome. Crows, jackdaws, magpies, robins, sparrows, gulls, starlings, various tits and finches, you name it. As far as I am concerned all birds are welcome here. We do have mice around as every so often we get little presents from the cats. However our 'Wildlife' garden is just that. A part of the garden where it is hoped we get varied wildlife which of course includes mice and rats as well as amphibians and foxes, bats and and butterflies.

I get mine from Sainsbury, there can't be much difference between the price of the value ranges and I hate Asda with a passion.

My birds have a cut apple every day. These were kept especially for them. I fed sultanas at my last house, but here they would get lost in grass or gravel.

I got my value sultanas from Tesco, as W.F. says I don't think there's more than a few pence difference between the supermarkets on them. I think the 'soaking' is more for the drier, harder, more shrivelled type of fruit like currants which probably do swell up quite a lot.

I wonder how much they would be in Lidl or Aldi? I must admit i don't usually put sultanas or raisins out for the birds but i think i will try them. When i made fat balls i used to put them in so i think i must be barmy not to have thought about putting them out loose ;D ;D

I looked in Lidl ages ago and then the 'value' brands in the big supermarkets were cheaper then. We don't have an Aldi.

I buy the human consumption pre-shelled type and add them to my breakfast, I'm addicted to them ;D We were talking sultanas not peanuts. While on the subject of peanuts, have you noticed how much they have gone up? The EU have lowered the level of Aflatoxins allowed on bird peanuts, this means the price has shot up

Never heard of talking sunflower seeds. Are they some sort of Bio hybrid? I could understand if the seeds of a Parrot flower started talking but sunflower seeds?
