When we had our Cockatiels ,even if they were inside the house, they could correctly identify when a bird of prey flew overhead. They made a weird warning call!?

One of our local sparrowhawks landed in the garden yesterday, it looked like a young female & sat on the fence staring at me through the window for a while before it decided I was a bit too big to tackle & flew off into the ivy tree at the end of the garden & then into the oak tree at the back.

One of our fatball bird feeders has the top missing and today I wondered why a starling was on it but not pecking the fatballs. When I went out to investigate I found a starling had gone down inside it and was well and truly stuck. Had to get Maureen to hold it while I cut the wire frame all round and as soon as I prised it apart it flew off apparently none the worse.

Poor thing, good job you spotted it sweetpea. I always worry about the starlings hurting their feet getting stuck in the wire on feeders as they're always squabbling & fighting on them & twisting around hanging by their claws.

I think the starlings are worse than the seagulls for squabbling among themseves where there is food. The wonder is that any of them manage to get some.

We had a very pretty starling in the garden the other day, it spent quite a lot of time pottering around & eating but looked as though it had a limp so not sure it will last long with the sparrowhawk around. We also have 2 pairs of collared doves visiting regularly, they are such lovely birds :- Three goldfinches arrived as well yesterday, the robin spotted them on the feeders & charged at them in a fury & knocked them off - this little one came back though- brave :-

Thanks grindle, the little great tit is still stuffing nesting material in the house - it must be very cosy in there!

I hang a peanut feeder in the tree with Dylans fur and I noticed yesterday that it's nearly all gone
