they will be back roofgardener it's their moult season I have a little robin that started appearing with its juvenile feathers, it now has its adult ones, every time I sit on my seat it appears waiting to be given treats Not a great photo but he's having a wash and brush up Oooh right - thanks for that grindle. I hope they DO all come back; I'm missing them already. The robin has me well trained. If I am sitting down at the patio, he will hop down and stare at me until I go to the polytunnel and throw him out some mealworms !!!

We used to have a robin like that as well, he used to sit on the back of a chair on the patio & stair at me through the patio doors demanding food!

Well, I had a magpie briefly down on the table thismorning. It is VERY shy though; it saw me in the Polytunnel, and immediately flew away !! Perahps there are more birds visiting than I realised ?

If there's food out Roofy the shy ones probably do visit when you're not around outside. We had a young jay visiting, I only saw it once or twice in briefly in the day but when I put the trail camera out it was showing up at around 5am every day for it's breakfast before the other birds had brushed their teeth!

I want to save up my pennies and get one of those cameras !!!!

It's fascinating what shows up on trail cameras Roofy, mine is quite old now & it does use a lot of batteries as it won't take rechargeable ones but there are lots of better ones around now & some are not too expensive. It's best if you put them either near some food you've left out or an obvious entry point/pathway in the garden.

Woodpecker back here again yesterday a couple of times - it must be autumn if it's hanging around the bird feeders here, not seen the jay yet but that usually turns up around the same time.

OK.. there is a bird (or rather, birds) that are annoying me, because I can't identify them.
Mostly, I just hear them. Their call is a sort of "Chuck... chuck... chuck... chuckachukachukaCACKLE".
I saw a flock of them in the village. They looked black (but then, they where silhouetted against the sky... so they might have been brown ? Or for that matter, neon green and pink). About the size of a large starling or a small crow. Very nimble.
Any ideas ?

I`m not very good on birds roofy. A robin or a blue tit is about my recognition limit. I love to hear the loud "caw" in the morning, mabe a blackbird ? my granny used to call them corncrake if there is such a bird ?
P.S. just been olooking my birds are not corncrakes and neither are they blackbirds that "caw"

They sound like they could be jackdaws roofgardener, they're a small crow & make a chuck chuck type call. You get flocks of them in parks etc. & some of them can be quite bold/tame when looking for food & walk up & wait for you to drop a piece of your sandwich or a chip!

I was just thinking roofgardener, if you're not sure of the colour & they've only just appeared they could be fieldfares which fly here from Scandinavia in autumn. They're about the size of a large thrush & are brown, speckled with grey heads & make quite a harsh chack chack sound, we get them in small flocks on the moss around here.

It's the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend & I was doing one yesterday with quite a few birds on the feeders for a change, usually they all hide when the survey happens! It went a bit quiet & then I heard a crow calling & looked out to see what was happening :- Not surprised the little ones disappeared, the crow then flew out of the oak tree & chased the sparrowhawk off across the back field!
