I potted on the ones Lou kindly sent me, and looked at the survivors from last year - I shall have a few Dahlias, anyway! ;D One that survived is 'Rebecca's World' I'm specially pleased about her. I loved the flowers!

Hi, I am getting ready to mark out my allotment for the planting of my dahlias. I have Poms, small ball, decs and some semi cactus. I have marked out 3 foot rows with 2 foot paths inbetween. What I am struggling with now is the spacing between the plants, obviously it is different for each type. The more I read on the internet the more confusing it is as everyone seems to have a different method. I have four, three foot posts on each side of the row and I am going to use pea netting to support them stretched over the posts. As an example I have been told to plant in the rows in triangles and for poms plant a foot apart. Any further advice would be appreciated. Thanks. I plant mine 2ft apart, except for giants they are planted 3ft apart Moorplace Pom, i plant 2ft apart, but after stopping them twice they finsh up by Sept, where you cannot tell where one plant ends and the other begins.

Candyblue you have worked hard and I hope this will be a good year for you. Of course I hope for the best from all our forum members, but not many ladies take dahlias to exhibition level. I hope Lou's are looking good too.

Thanks I hope everyone on here does well too, it's nice to see there are still people interested in showing as it would be a shame to see the shows go down more. It will be great when we can start posting photos when the flowers are out

I second Cherry's good wishes for your shows Candy. Mine aren't even in the ground yet; they are still very small. It does not matter so much this year as I won't be entering the show this time. I'm concentrating my efforts on getting good pot tubers for next season
