The winner of the Leeds Dahlia Trial's 2013 is Ms Kennedy, a Large Pom. Raised by Steve & Sandy Boley, Birchbay Dahlia's in Seattle. If large poms are your thing then Les Jones's new release - 'Jodie Wilkinson' is worth a try. Very nice. He won at the National and the Midlands with it. I believe it is now being released through Halls.

That is surprising. The dahlias come from all over UK and abroad.

Has I expected Birkenshaw Pudsey came well down the field at the trials. Will grow a few next year, if it does not show the same form that it did in 2012 it will be no more.

Well I have just posted off my entry form for the trial's. Sending Garden Friends and the Red Small Decorative seedling, it cannot do any worse than Pudsey, that came last in the trials.

Who is Wyn? Lovely dahlia. The story behind the name is. This seedling was sown in 2012 and planted with other seedlings on the allotment. When this seedling was in bud, wind snapped the main stem near the base, so needless to say I did not see it flower. End of the dahlia season I discovered it had made a tuber, so decided to grow it again in 2013 at home, the first bloom that came out was rubbish. This was the first bloom, the colour is not right in the pic. The next door neighbour saw this bloom and said she really liked it, She is called Wyn, now if this dahlia had been planted down on the allotment it would have been pulled and composted. The dahlia was only left to flower again because of her liking it. So decided to call it Wyn's Favourite after her.
