Hmm Tel can I put dahlia seed in coir pellets or is it a bad idea since coir holds too much water? I'm just not patient enough to do the seed tray then pricking out method...

Never tried that method jrae, have ago and let us all know, how it goes. Coir pellets didn't work, I guess it did have too much water. I split up a packet of pompom seeds and the ones in the tray are all good, all of em came up in 2 to 3 days. The seeds in the coir pellets haven't shown up yet, not even one tiny plant. I'll wait one more week before I dump it.

I will be doing, they will be planted about a foot apart, because its only the form, angle and the stem of the seedling i would be interested in this year.

So do you choose your "motherplant" and cross pollinate that yourself, or just save seeds after nature has done her bit?
I'd love to be able to get a charlie two the colour of Barbarry Melody.
