I was going round the dahlia's squeezing the moisture out of the seed heads today. One seed head started to break up in my hand, noticed some seeds, brought it home and there were 15 seeds, it came from the Miniature Dec, Marston George. so it is a start for next year.

I've got some Downham Royal seeds. I am hoping to get some from Eastwood Moonlight. We can have a seedling contest next season. Dad keeps saying 'Where are you going to plant all of them?' I said "Well if they do grow and I don't have enough space then I'll have to give them to you to put in your garden..." Think that that would go down like a lead balloon if I tried that one with my Mum.
I think I would ever be any competition with you both. I've not been that successful planting seeds this year. Dad said if I am lucky I could get about 10% grow. Put that into realistic terms, if I collected and sowed 100 seeds 5 years running I might get a single seedling.

I cannot complain this year, plenty of seeds collected this year, compared to the 30 collected last year. looking like it could be another 2012 when I grew 600 seedlings. I will not sow them all next year I am going to keep some back in case 2014 is a bad year for seed production again.

So far I have 100 seeds from Blyton Royal Velvet Min Dec. 50 seeds from Karen Glenn Min Dec and 30 seeds from Marston George Min Dec. Then so far there must be 600+ from other varieties, If the frosts keep away then they maybe a few more yet.

I was hoping to get some Eastwood Moonlight but no luck yet and nothing from Weston Pirate but I have loads from Weston Spanish Dancer (50+).
I was wondering are there some varieties that are prolific in producing of seeds and whether there is a regional factor in the varieties that seed and those that won't.
For example my Dad got rid of Sorbet because it didn't produce seeds but he gets seeds from Eastwood Moonlight yet Tel hasn't. Maybe the bees head for a specific varieties in different parts of the country. (Imagine in some parts of the country the nectar equivalent to a lime milkshake is popular and another part of the country no self respecting bee would drink anything other than banana or strawberry.)
Also been wondering which varieties had a higher germinate and grow into full plant rates?

What I meant to type was:I don't think I would ever be any competition with you both.My seeds are all now in pots. I've managed to collect seeds from: Eastwood Moonlight, Downham Royal, Weston Pirate, Mary's Jomanda, Willo's Violet, Weston Flamingo, Staleen Condessa, Weston Spanish Dancer and Red Balloon. Ranging from 1 Willo's Violet and over 200 from Staleen Condessa. Not bad going from single plant of each variety with the exception of Downham Royals.

One has just germinated. Looking at it, it is probably the white, tipped purple, with pink blends and a red centre

Sown some seeds from, Marston Lilac, Marston George, Blyton Royal Velvet and Karen Glenn this afternoon. Sown these a week earlier than I would normally, but quite a few more seeds to sow, so staggering the dates of sowing.
