It looks good that Tel,what are the stems like. They were fine last year, the plant did not have any feed all season. will see how it looks this season. Lovely looking flower Tel, have you given it a name yet? Really like the deep solid red colour, almost a burgundy from the picture. I would really like to raise seedlings, but not sure how to go about it. I'll have to get the 'raising seedlings' book from the NDS website, but any advice from the forum, would be greatly appreciated. Hope all your cuttings are doing OK, think I should be taking my first by the end of the week

Taken 27 cuttings from this seedling now. Looks nice !! If you are looking for anyone to trial it I would be interested with the aim to get it on the showbench at the midlands. Obviously lets see what it looks like this year. Mark

You have to go round on a regular basis and squeeze the moisture out of the seed pods so they do not rot. the number of seeds collected depends on how good a summer we have too. Season 2012 was a wet one, I collected just over 30 seeds, last year I collected about a 1000

How much to water? Lots of my tubers are now in growth, but a lot are not. Don't want to over water, but on the other hand, I don't want to under water . Compost feels a bit dry which is ok for tubers not in growth, but I'm worried about the ones in growth. Think I'll try little and often. Any advice would be gratefully received...

I just keep mine on the damp side. I do give them a water the day before I take any cuttings though.

Thanks for the advice Tel. Gave them a bit of a soak, as the soil at the bottom was really dry. As this is my first proper year taking cuttings on a large scale, I'm happy to see so many tubers with growth. Even the tubers I kept over winter and divided are slowly coming to life. And thanks to this forums help, I'm keeping the mistakes to a minimum.

Do you use a lid over them Tel No DC, I do cover them with newspaper in a morning when the sun is on the greenhouse. The sun is off it in the afternoon. I do spray them when I remember.

New soil warming cable as done the trick, most varieties are now sending up shoots, apart from ryecroft jan, weston pirate and leopold chloe.I have given up on these three now as I need some room in the greenhouse as cuttings are rooting up.All cuttings that have been taken up to now will be used as mother plants unless they are poms or late flowerers.I have managed to overwinter a ground tuber of marston lilac and taken 7 cuttings from it and it now as about another 20 shoots coming so I will use this instead of ryecroft jan and I will get some chloe off a mate.

I'll tell you what I do marky, when it appears in Tinypic right click anywhere on the picture and select 'copy shortcut' then select the picture icon above when posting, the one that says 'insert image' the box that pops up already has something in it like http....delete that, right click in the box and select paste...that works for me
