Just back from the northern comitee agm at crooklands in cumbria.Great turnout, 100 people turned up.There was three talks by Gordon Hodgson,Don Sutcliffe and Ross Ainslie. Also picked some blyton golden girl up from mark aka woodford dahlias,it was good to meet someone else from the forum,I met cherry a couple of years ago at harrogate but probalys did'nt make much sense after no sleep for 36 hours. Likewise DC, always nice to put a face to a name. There is life outside cyber space !! Yes, an interesting meeting with some even more interesting characters to help spice it up mentioning no names.

I so wish you hadn't written that, very curious now. Mind you wouldn't know who you were talking about anyway. Only recognised one name on the list and people think that dahlias are boring!

Sounds interesting, but talking dahlias is one thing and doing is another. Lets hope if this is true is gets its propagation traits from Candy and not the Goldcrest's. They have been poor this year so far. Speaking with David Hall yesterday he says he is dumping Cherwell after this year. If Oakwood wasn't such a nice flower I would be following suit.

Mad as a march hare comes to mind and that's all I will say.

Very funny remarks Moonlight. I was quite intrigued too, but did not think I should encourage the gossips.

I was hoping someone else on the forum might be a member. Are you going to the plant sale this May, Candyblue. I've been in contact with Alan Taylor, a what a nice man chap he is. The new website is up and running, with bits still under construction. I joined for the same reason as you, there is nothing in Hertfordshire, and I couldn't find anything in Bedfordshire. Where abouts are you based, I'm in Welwyn Garden City.
Mark candyblue @markymate If you wish there was a Dahlia Society why don't you consider setting one up?
If you look on the Essex website there is a page the History of the Society, it seems to be a group of dahlia growers meeting up in a pub, all in agreement that they would like a Society. In lots of ways nowadays it is easier to get in contact, spread the word. Do you local town Horticultural Societies? To spread the word, generate a bit of interest? Some form of advert in National Dahlia Society bulletin? Do you have any places that sell dahlias on their websites, maybe they could get in contact. A post to the Letters Page on some of the gardening magazines?
Just a suggestion, ask around, Are there other dahlia enthusiasts who would like to meet up once a year.... Meeting up in a pub sounds a good idea, relaxed and sociable. That sounds like it all started in Essex. PS I hope that the above makes sense, it has been a long day.

What a lovely day, been in the greenhouse all morning, taking lots of cuttings, and potting up four very healthy looking plants that came today, from Mark, at Woodford Dahlias, cheers Mark. I got, Blyton Golden Girl, Trooper Dan, Kiwi Gloria and Weston Spanish Dancer. Moved lots of stuff around ready for the summer rush of, tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, peppers and chilies. Backs killing me now, so I'm going to stop, and go for a pint

Well deserved @markymate. I would think Tel and steve would like to join you. Nothing would give me more pleasure, than to have a pint with these two fine gentlemen . I'm back from the pub now, had to treat the good lady to lunch, as I've just brought a new bench for the greenhouse!! So sitting in the back garden with a glass of wine, in the late evening sunshine

Moonlight the idea sounds good, just in practice I`m not sure how much time I have to set one up as at the moment we are in process of setting up a new scout group in the village and I`ve been roped in as Beaver scout leader for my sins! I think Rob may leave me if I joined another committee or maybe I could give up work, now there's an idea - if only
