Minley Carol is trying to sport, I think. Found this bloom today while tidying, is this normal for a pom?

You can get that on a few dahlia's, now if it had changed colour completely, yes. one of the blooms on a red decorative seedling did the same thing.

Went down to the allotments this morning, just to see how the dahlia's were doing for this Sat. Now the allotment association had asked the council to clear all the wood and rubbish from the 3 allotments at the back of us. When I arrived hey were clearing those allotments, burning all the wood etc, all the smoke was blowing across our allotments. Now all the blooms without covers, are all ruined with the fall out from the smoke, Brenda T and Mary's Jomanda etc very little chance now of having a entry in the 5 vase Championship now. Went down to the allotment this afternoon, cut some Brenda T, ducked the blooms into some clean water, they came out minus most of the dirt. if the petals have not gone brown in the morning I will chance it and take them to the show.

Good luck to all garden friends who are showing this weekend.
Been having a bit of a sort out of the dahlias, getting rid of any that are not up to standard (ie. diseased, poor blooms, too short). I like to do this now so that I don't save any of them by mistake.
Also managed to take some seed off 'Westerton Folly' and 'Lilian Marston' so will be giving some seedlings a go next term.
Also done a rough estimate of what numbers to grow next year for the shows. First show hopefully being Royal Welsh at end of July so will need early flowerers for this. May do a second batch of different cultivars for August Bank Holiday and see if I can get to the Midlands and/or Welsh National shows. Time to take it a bit more seriously if I can find the time.

Went to Leeds Paxton show, this morning made 5 entries, including the 5 vase champion ship, was going to split them into other classes, but this will be my last show of the season so placed 2 vases of Charlie Two a vase of Brenda T a vase of Mary's Jomanda and a vase of Marston Lilac in the championship. Garden Friends is entered in the Collarette Class.

Leeds Paxton, 2nd in the Championship, in other words last. Garden Friends was 2nd, not happy about that, beaten by April Heather. Plus three firsts for Kenora Challenger, Brenda T and Wyn's Favourite in a class for any varieties. That's it for this season now.

Sorry to read that you are disappointed but Lou is right you have had a really great season and on the trials. When do you get the results?
