Hi I am going to the National at Wisley the first day is on Tuesday 2nd September, the first day the blooms will be at their best. I heard the blooms last year on day two suffered from the heat. So it is up to you. The show will be broken down after three days then will be replaced by displays and bring a bloom competition for the general public.

Thanks everyone. Yes I'm pleased but I know what I really have to do compete at Wisley and Harrogate next year. I was pleased with Marston George in the single vase class, but in the 3 vase class, I have to work at getting all the vases equal in size and quality. Hopefully the info I an gaining this year with the 3 varieties will enable me to enter the "Dunlop" next year (Marston Suzanne is very tall under the covers and is quite large and a couple have gone over, so will grow it more up next year, poss 12 up. And it will be planted behind the others!!) Also getting my eyes tested................couldn't see under the lights when staging

Only grow Suzzanne Marston on a single stop if you can, 12 up if you can manage it. Dont take the wingbuds off till a week minimum before your show, this will keep the size down on your prospect bud. Depending on your ground you may need to tinker with the 12 up.

Thank for that I stopped Suzanne at 6 pair of leaves and had every intention of growing some 12 up and some 6 or 7 seven up..........but, on all the plants the bottom budding lats rotted off leaving every thing bar a couple of plants 6 7 or 8 up and they look like being well over blooms from now on. I could not d/s them because they would not have been ready for the shows I wanted to do. But no problem, I've learned a little on how to tackle them for next year, Learning is all part of the fun It is amazing the difference between varieties from the same raiser! George is quite happy here at 6 or 7 up, same as Lilac!

Good to see new folks making the trip, free lunch and breakfast rolls always strikes the right note. At least if the results dont go your way you can stuff your face with free grub.

Well that is good it is always better to compete when there is a good entry. They are a great bunch at the Midlands society very hospitable. I purposely stopped earlier to go to the Midlands this year as it usually clashes with the Grey Mare society but this year it does not clash. It is also good to get a few vases on the bench before the National on the 2 September. Will I see you on Saturday then Mark?

Look forward to it.I'd like to have a proper look at your De la Haye's if your bringing any. Jimmy H, collared me at the northern conferance, I think he was interested in coming too. I'm sure Dave Spencer with his new disbudding lacky 'Mr Gillam' will be there in force. Could be a mini national methinks especially if Phil Watson makes the trip again. Last year all the giant growers hit the midlands all except Tony Kingdom. 12 entries in the Giant class with Ray Weeks taking it with his outstanding array of Sir Alfs.

I will try my best to bring some De la Haye for you to look at, as to if JH is coming I don't think so. It would be nice to see Phil there may be a recipe for a good show.

Excellent, I really like the look of them. For an older variety it's a break from the norm. Yes, it sounds like it could be a cracking show all being well. Perhaps scrumpy could make the trip next year ? its only a week after southport and two weeks after Shrewsbury. I'm a small grower (250 Plants) but I will try and put in what I can. I will be armed with my camera and its always nice to post a few pics so the forum can have a peak afterwards. See you Saturday. Mark
