Lou78W As I don't want to risk taking cuttings that don't root with my percentage success last year. Been told only take 2 to 3 max of a first year seedling. Spoke to Ken stock about it. So would rather split the Tuber which I am more successful at doing. I might try a cutting in late April early May when I stop them and try to root that.

Raymond Thanks for your explanation. I will bear that in mind if I ever get to the stage of having a seedling worth keeping

First lot boxed up and on heat
Jersie x 4 Cherwell goldcrest x 1 Staleen condessa x 1 Ruskin Michelle x 3 Tahoma lady oh x 1 Chimacum davi x 1 Wittemans superba x 1
Sent a load of tubers to a good grower friend down here that has much better facilities than me and he will propagate some for me.
Still deciding what to grow yet . It will change I am sure.
Split my seedling tubers in half. Sulphured. Will set them up mid Feb.

I'm itching to get going but leaving it a while longer, March 1st will be the start of the season for me giving me April/May cuttings. I'm trying 'Robs Symbol, Rossendale Roxy and good old Jomanda this time and dropping a few others. Like you, nothing written in stone yet.

Good luck to everyone for the season ahead. With a little bit of luck and a lot of help from my garden friends on here Che and I hope to have a display of healthy large plants this year (slugs and water control shall be conquered). As we begin our second season we hope to build on our knowledge of 2015 and look like we might know what we are doing when the neighbours look over the fence in 2016 lol growing onwards and upwards - as my dad used to say

@davidv this is the first batch will start the rest early to mid Feb . I started jersie and the goldcrest as slower movers. Michelle I felt the tubers where not keeping well and shrivelling so thought start them now. Staleen I started one and sent the other to a good grower friend. Heard it can be a poor cuttings provider so what I plan to do is get eyes on it take one or two cuttings and then split the Tuber and grow from the tuber. Tahoma lady oh I saw at wisley trial and I liked it Similar colour to Mary's jomanda I liked the petal shape and lay was very neat.. Looked a nice habit and it had been bad weather and the blooms looked good min ball I think. My friend in Cheshire had it and loves so he sent me a tuber. Chimacum davi the same friend recommended it so thought worth a shot one or two plants in front garden display probably a large Pom or smaller min ball. Here is Tahoma lady oh from wisley last september and chimacum davi from my friend who grew it. Chimacum Davi

@davidv I remembered I was at Arthur dashwoods plot the 93 year old president of Kent dahlia and he used to grow the original symbol. He said was superb but you have to take a load of petals out of the back of it for showing.
Arthur has a superb knowledge on dahlias. Lovely man.
Rossendale roxy a couple grew it down here and its a big bloom for the class. Needs everything up on it. Double stop I think they said.
I prefer jomanda to Mary's.
Good luck for the season ahead. I hope to get some nicer small and min decs and mediums on the bench this year. I will be happy with that.

I'm sure you'll have more success in 2016. 93 is a good age to be still growing dahlias, hope I'm still here at 93 haha! Dahlia wise Raymond, I'm gradually finding out what grows well uncovered and in my light soil. With the new tubers I've got I have more options still. Robs symbol may be an improvement on symbol and it looks fantastic, a new MSC was a priority. Jomanda a reliable ball/min ball. I'll get more detailed cultural instructions later! Just posting some greenhouse pics in the new thread.

Let's see @davidv not sure on my growing this year. It will be another year learning and studying and if show blooms come great. Numbers but not big numbers until I get an allotment. Need to work on a lot of things with a lot of varieties.
I am sure you will have a great year . Again good luck and good fortune for 2016 !

So it will be Kent dahlia society 50th anniversary show this year and we will have a special anniversary class and I may need a yellow medium semi cactus.
I won't gamble on Eastwood moonlight ( although would like to) they will have to be uncovered so I have shortlisted 3 ruskins
Avenger Sunshine Harmony
Anyone have any other suggestions ?
Not ryecroft Helen as heard it spots if uncovered.
