I have a little frog in the log garden which pops out when I hose it. I put a big pot plant saucer of water in that area, which bees, wasps and small birds use. What will happen to this little frog? The new people next door did not understand the pipe the previous neighbour and I placed under the fence and they have covered it with their garden. I don’t think they will have the hedgehog which was hibernating there either. It would have to go out the front way onto the cul-de-sac, which goes onto a fairly busy road. Will the frog need to leave for mating? I tried putting the pipe under the fence into the woods at the back, but can’t dig deep enough and will need to wait for the gardener. It is very dry out there under the oak trees.

Do you have a pond Cherry or is there one nearby? I used to get frogs hopping about every year my back garden in my last house, probably because there was a stream about 10 mins walk away so I imagine it will find a mate if there is water nearby you. I have a tiny pond now and no frogs at all .

No ladybird, but my previous neighbour next door had a washing up bowl and it obviously encouraged frogs and the hibernating hedgehog which I mentioned somewhere. It must have come from there. She loved wildlife, but the new neighbours first job was to take out every plant in the front garden and park cars there and in the drive. The second was to build a fence between them and their other neighbour. I hope my frog can get around. I will put the pipe into the woods at the back when I see the gardener, which will be in about 3 or 4 weeks.

I think frog will be able to find its way out and if it is very small it will be a few years before it is old enough to breed.
Have you chatted to your new neighbours, they may not have been aware of what the pipe was for. They may be delighted o open it up again.

You could try sinking a small bowl in a shady part of your garden Cherry? If there's a cool corner somewhere with some rocks, logs & plants for it to hide in the frog will be happy, they're supposed to go back to the pond they were born in to breed but I imagine they can improvise. We don't have any gaps in the fences between us & the neighbours either side, they're not keen on wildlife, everything which comes into our garden walks up the drive from the front garden but we are in a cul-de-sac so the road is pretty quiet, we have hedgehogs, foxes, local cats etc. who visit that way.

This all sounds good SueA. I have found a small part at the bottom of the back gate to the woods which I hadn’t realised was there so this might be the route for tiny wildlife. I will still ask the gardener to put a pipe under the fence. I won’t see him for about 3 weeks.

Well here I am again year 8 still no frogs or spawn in my tiny pond Thankfully I read that it is not illegal to take some from a pond so I have instructed family members to carry a container should they come upon some . I`ll have to do more walking and scouting myself though I might look suspicious rummaging about in fields ( maybe I should get a dog )

there's been a noticeable lack of frogs and spawn this year around my garden, it's usually full of activity

Same here grindle, no frogspawn & not seen a single frog, very worrying as we usually have lots. I keep getting 'Facebook memories' coming up from past years with videos & photos of all the tadpoles we've had at this time in the past. Think it must be something to do with the weather over the last year. 😥

I did eventually have some frog spawn which had fallen down to the bottom of the pond and noticed some tadpoles later but no where near what I usually get, I've been hearing the odd frog in the garden too, it's definately a strange year for them
