Gosh, I hope the little beds I have are going to be large enough.
I'm glad you started this thread, as soon as the weather picks up I will have a million and one questions about what I need to be doing and how to protect my plants.

Please don't take this question as being facetious in any way - but why do you both (Tel especially) need to grow so many of the same types? Is it to be able to choose the best blooms for showing?

I do not take your question as facetious in any way at all, that's why we join these forums to ask questions, no matter how simple or difficult they maybe. Lou is correct in her answer, i grow 180 this year i hope to increase that with the new allotment. The champion growers grow up to 1000 plants.

Thats 180 different varieties isn't it....or plants I will only be able to grow as many as I have room for. My dahlia beds at the allotment will hold 48 plants. Once I have finally settled on veg/fruit beds...I will be able to grow more. Of course there's nothing stopping me from having lots of pots scattered about ;D ;D

1,000 plants! Wow! That's real dedication. As you know, I'm not growing them for show - I just like a few in my garden. I do appreciate the advice, though - and Tel's online tutorial, too. ;D

My dahlia beds on the allotment. Around here they take allotments away from people that only grow flowers And then give them to people that don't grow veggies much or do much at all, all to PC for me ...

I grow 102 dahlias, and for seral years included within this number are 24 Trelyn Kiwi's. Last year the majority were: 24 Trelyn Kiwi sc;16 Mary's Jomanda min-b;12 Barbarry Pip min-d; 6 Karenglen min-dec;6 Ryecroft Venture min-dec;6 Susan Gilliott msc; various cultivars x 4. Particularly with the Trelyn Kiwi as I grow it 7 up and retain the cetral bud stripping off all lother growth, I need to grow a number of them. Paul
