We had swallows in the garage/shed, but they have all gone now. The car might stay a bit cleaner now.

Atticus catches rabbits every day and lately he has been sharing with a magpie. I may have already told you about this, but it is amazing to see as they have a real partnership. The magpie takes the bits pared away from the rabbit. Now I am watching the front garden, where a bit of rabbit is reduced to smaller portions, while a baby magpie, as big as its mother, is acting like a spoilt child demanding its share. We only have about six maggies, so we are not overrun with them. In fact, the birdlife looks even. There is a cuckoo, but I don't hear it every day.
I just checked back to see if I have already told you that my limping pigeon is back. I noticed it some weeks ago. It must be six years old now. I know they all look like they limp, but this one must have been hit by a car or something. It is very healthy and always finds a mate.

Nice to hear the pigeon is still going strong Cherry ! We have the odd magpie visiting the garden too on the lookout for the baby birds & eggs, they're beautiful & clever though. I saw what looked like a parent bird with two youngsters on a roof the other day & the adult had picked up a chocolate bar in a wrapper which someone must have dropped & it was trying to figure out how to get the bar out, the two 'babies' were impatiently jumping up & down waiting for the treat just like human children!

I bring home food from local suppers, like rolls from the bowling club last week, and rolls from harvest supper, etc. I have to convince the organizers that it is for the maggies and not us.

I bet that's all the baby sparrows having their bath before bedtime Joysie Haven't seen any robins at all around here either for months & only catch the odd glimpse of our male blackbird but I'm sure they'll all be back in your garden & ours when the weather starts turning nasty!

Sue, I saw our first Robin yesterday and today he was sitting on the fence singing his little heart out.

The birds have reappeared after their moult, saw a wren, robin, blackbirds and a couple of jackdaws feeding this morning I've been stocking up with bird food for the last few weeks, just as well as when I went to Morrisons this week, packs of mealworms had gone up 80p!

We have been experiencing some odd behaviour from bluetits lately. Just outside our dining room window is an area with several shrubs in it and there is often bluetits and sparrows flitting around in them but the other day I heard this tapping noise and it was a bluetit on the windowsill tapping the glass. Over the next few days they have been all over the window sill pecking at something but I couldn't see any insects or anything there. They come in a flock of about a dozen or so and occasionally fly at the window itself just veering off at the last moment. ps The pigeons are becoming quite adept at removing whole peanuts from the feeder now. it empties in no time at all and costs a small fortune so you don't want clever pigeons Peony

We had a sparrow tapping around on the windowledge outside a month or so sweetpea & the only thing I could think of was it was picking at spiders or something. I've seen bluetits picking at loose pointing cement around the windows occasionally too & one even squeezed in to the cavity between the walls once! We had a gang of longtail tits in the garden on Friday , not seen any of those for ages!

Ours are a bit like a raiding 'gang' sweetpea , they come in flit around all the trees & feeders tweeting to each other & then all fly off together!
