Well done you!!.....so pleased Karenglen came up trumps for you......had forgotten what a gorgeous dahlia she is !! Garden Friends did well too......doesn't matter about her legs......,her face is what counts....lol Yes well done Tel, back on the winning trail I see. Stems look fine on 'Garden Friends', you dont get extra points for being straight as long as they are in proportion to the flower. Collerettes dont favour well in the NDS Trials but you may well be in with a bit of a shout I think and obviously everyone on this board hopes. All the award winners had to get into a group, to have their pic taken for the local paper. Good job I do not have knee problems yet, I was the only one that had to kneel down in front of the group for the pic.

Will not be entering the Small Decorative Championship at Harrogate, Brenda T is behind, she was one of the first out last year too. I'm hoping to have 5 of them ( 2nd flush ) for a show on Saturday Haven't entered this one before, but there are a lot of dahlia classes so must be a few competitors there. This show will probably be a one off as the championship class calls for 2 giants, and I have some Bonaventure that may be ready. They were replacement plants from Halls as the first lot looked OK but didn't grow. Of the replacements, 3 out of 6 have grown normally. Plus, I may have enough of my sport to show.

Garden Friends will be going to Harrogate, we will have to see if it can compete in the Premier League of dahlia's. Will pop across the road this morning to see the garden friends, I placed labels on certain blooms on Sunday evening, I need to know if I have got the timing right on them I am hoping to see two rings of pollen this morning. then I know at what state of development the blooms need to be because I will need to cut them Wednesday evening, because I will need to cut blooms down at the other allotments Thursday morning.

Question for all you experienced show people. When you first started out as a novice were you given any tips, by an experienced dahlia grower, that has stood you in good stead over the years. The tip I was given and used ever since, concerned the centres of Small and Miniature Decorative's I was told that on a Small Decorative the centre should be no bigger than a ten pence piece, Miniature Decorative, no bigger than a five pence piece.

The two bits of advice I was given when I started to grow dahlias and I try to stick to are: 1. Keep plenty of notes, not just on individual cultivars but individual plants, weather, etc. 2. Enter what you can - if you don't put it on the bench you won't be in the top 10!

Won't be able to do the small dec championship scrumpy, but may get in the mini dec championship/,mini ball championship/,small ball mini ball pom championship/,mini ball mini dec mini cac championship/,and the lancaster which comprises 2 vases small/mini dec,2 vases small/mini cac and 2 vases of poms.I will be pleased if I make 2/3 of them classes.Damping of permiting I am looking at cutting about 2 dozen eastwood moonlight so may go for the 3 vase medium semi cactus class. We will also be going for 3 wins on the trot in the society championship after winning at harrogate last year and at wisley this year .I will be there from about 8ish tomorrow night until about 3 on friday so hope to meet anyone who is showing or just going for the day on friday but won't of had much sleep if any so excuse me if I am in a daze as cherry found out 2 years ago.
