I thought my grenador pastelle were late scrumpy (7 days ago).Talking to a lot of dahlia growers I think a lot lost stock last winter so a lot of nursesries were inundated with orders and struggled to fulfil them.I think some of the smaller nurserises need to know when to stop taking orders.I had my problem with lochend dahlias I ordered in jan for april delivery and they came in three batches first week in may then 2 weeks later then 2 weeks after that.Ordered 16 ruskin myra and got sent 16 of the substitute that I put.I ordered 12 jomanda from halls of heddon last week in april because cruickshanks let me down by also sending a substitute and they arrived 3rd week in may and were the best cuttings I was sent.

Gonna give it a go to get them ready for August, the plants look nice and sturdy, have got 3 pairs of leaves so have stopped them. Just means i'll have a few less runner beans over the allotment as i've used up all the space with what i thought was all of my dahlias, so got to squeeze them in somewhere else.

Yes they are show standard, i grew the Dianes in buckets 4 up and then just sunk them in the bed after the first early potatoes had been removed, then when the buds were showing colour i would take the flower bucket up and placed it in the greenhouse to stop them marking. I have not shown the Moonlights for a number of years, they always finished up marked for me, just kept a couple of tubers for stock, i just do not like getting rid of them, ;D last year i grew one in a bucket and grew it 4 up and once again placed it in the greenhouse in the same way as the Dianes, it got up to size and not a mark on it, trying 8 plants that way this year to see if i can get a vase out of them for somewhere.

Yes I've stopped growing moonlights too Tel In my opinion when you dont have a great deal of room Its pointless growing varieties that mark too easy. Also stopped growing the dianes. You've got me thinking on the bucket thing now tel might have to try a bit of that.

I had Blyton softer gleam from Halls they came on time but they seem to not be doing as well as the others, apart from Kenora sunset where I have lost two of the plants fingers crossed everyhting else seems to be ok. I was lucky that we got them all planted Saturday and then it rained all night Sunday so really helped to water them in.
