finally received blyton softer gleam from station house today.....not bad seeing they were supposed to come early April Don't think i'll be showing it in August though..... I wonder if the majority of dahlia nurseries have had problems this year with their cuttings, DC dahlia had a late delivery also. Some of my early rooted cutting orders were delayed due to slowness of some cultivars to shoot and then to root, unusually not the normal "suspects". All my plant orders went out by the end of May. Royal Mail "lost" two packages of rooted cuttings. Funnily enough, one was a replacement for the first, subsequently sent by City Link who delivered all our plant orders perfectly. 100% success in dispatch and delivery this year, apart from those Royal Mail lost.

I find i have the problem of getting enough cuttings from tubers that the previous year had produced cutting material for fun. When you set the tubers up for propagating from, you just never know the number of cuttings they will produce.

Its a good job the big boys do not look in here, we may have them running scared.

Managed to get all dahlias fed with miracle gro and sprayed with fungus clear ultra this morning before the heavens opened this afternoon.Planted 2 kenora challengers to replace 2 root rotted ruskin michelles.I took the bottom 2 pairs of leaves off and planted up to the next pair of leaves. This Is challengers last chance.

Tried a few times to grow challenger Tel but can't seem to get the size, mine a more mediums i find that quite amazing as you grow grenidor pastelle to full size off a double stop.......as Tel says, i grow mine 4 up and whilst not hitting the ring, they are much larger than my medium's.

Might be exagerating about the mediums ;D but they are no where near as big as some poeple get them.Yes I grow it 4 up tel my mate phil who grows It very well says I don't give it enough water.Growing grenador for the first time In a few years scrumpy after seeing some good ones at harrogate from dave spencer and dave fowler apparently a double stop is the best way to grow it.

I would guess a double stop gets it more refined, less fimming. I can't grow it myself for that reason, getting it to flower for mid August always splits the petals, though a month later may make a difference. Don't get the same problem with primrose so i grow that one.

Has anyone experienced damage from the recent frosts?...I've got a few plants that have leaves that are all brown round the margins. I think perhaps it was a very light frost a few days ago; I think I did my routine spraying that day and perhaps the leaves were still wet round the edges, and the low temps "burned" them. The shoot tips are ok though.....

It is probably leaf scorch...had a similar problem when we had those winds a few weeks ago. As long as your tips are ok you'll be fine. Just cut off the affected leaves.....in fact, as the plants grow i usually remove all the lower leaves as a routine...makes it easier to water and cuts down on splash back from the soil.
