Here we go again !! Am growing 8 Vals Candy. All looking good apart from one plant that doesn't look as healthy as the others. That one is starting to open and it is pure white. Will see how it develops, and how the other buds form. Maybe it's because the plant looks a bit sickly. Will take a cutting later

My Willo's Violet has sported.
Unfortunately I don't have the means to try and keep it but it is pretty.

Hi Moonlight, Why do you not have the means to keep it? Just take as many side shoots as you can from the flowering lateral, you don't have to be it too much of a rush to take them, even when the flower has gone. If the shoots you take have a bud in the top just pinch out the bud of the side shoot then these should root Ok. They will root quite quickly then you then just need to keep them frost free over the winter (easier said than done) or let someone look after them who has the means to. It would be good to try and secure a plant or two. Good luck anyway. Ian

It must be the weather !! Plants stressed with changes in temperature and growing conditions. The original candy I dumped because it kept sporting or part sporting which is no good when you have set numbers.
I work in the science industry and a theory I have been meaning to try for some years has produced a Cream Charlie 2 (Full Plant) thats all folks I'm afraid !!. Watch this space

Clay's Candy which is a candyfloss colored white is not pure white. I tried it this year, not over impressed but first season grown as a medium 7 up it might be worth another try. Too much petal grown on a main bud. This can be corrected. Val's candy is decent but none of the candy's are top class, hense why the big individual championships include better options by the serious growers. When I mean big I mean Wisley and Harrogate. see above, that was as the bloom was opening.....as it grows, it should produce a crown bud quite quickly so we shall see what colour that is.

scrumpy Pure white candy looks better than the original to me. I do prefer vals to hillcrest anyway. How many top sports you got now ?

Got 4 more cuttings rooted now of the Candy. They look quite normal at the moment, no sign of leaf problems. Will have to start heating the greenhouse and getting my lights out soon to give them the best chance of producing something for next year. Been preparing some beds over the allotment to grow seedlings and sports, the brassicas have had to make way. Will have room to grow at least 50 plants. Am also going to register the other 2 sports this week. Will be Greenways Zoe and Greenways Moonlight. Both are still flowering well. The moonlight still as clean as a whistle. In the 4 years I've had it not once has it damped off or spotted, and I think I've got it a more consistent colour now. Anyway, if anyone is interested in trying them let me know. Sion will hopefully be releasing Zoe in a couple of years to make me a fortune But if anyone wants it pre release and has a healthy bank balance we can come to some arangement Greenways Zoe is very much in it's infancy. I've selected 2 plants to take next years cuttings off, so I will have some tubers spare. As I said before, the odd white petal appears, but reselection may solve that.
